1. To get wind of something – to hear a rumor about something or someone


Sentence – She got wind that she might be breaking 
with him.


2. To turn over a new leaf – to begin again; to refresh; to start anew

Sentence – She quit smoking and turned over a new 
leaf.


3. To drive someone nuts – to make someone feel crazy; to exasperate  someone

Sentence – He drives her nuts when he told her exam result.


4. To be nuts about someone or something – to like someone or something
Sentence – She’s nuts about that boy band one 
direction.


5. To be shaking like a leaf – trembling/shivering usually with fear or from the cold

Sentence – He’s feeling cold that’s why he’s shaking like a leaf.


6. The autumn year – later years of life; when you’re getting older


Sentence – He retired at 65 because he wants to 
enjoy his autumn years.


7. To be under the weather – to feel sick/unwell


Sentence – I didn’t come to school today, I was 
feeling a bit under the weather.
