Shopping Phrasal Verbs

1. To fit into – to still be able to wear some clothes; to fit in some clothes; usually consider about the size


Sentence – In this summer, I have become thin so I can 

easily fit into my old clothes.


2. To put something on/ to put on something –
to wear something
                         
                                         

Sentence – Put on your overcoat, it’s quite cold out 

there.


3. Zip up/do up/button up – close an item of clothing


Sentence – It’s necessary to button up the shirt in the 

school campus.


4. To sell out – no more availability of item; item has sold

Sentence – The item that you need has sold out.


5. To shop around – to consider different options before you buy/to look at different shops

Sentence – I have a tendency to buy anything only after 

to shop around.


6. To try on something/to try something on –  to try something to just see if it fits or looks good on you


Sentence – I tried on so many outfits today, but nothing 

looked nice on me.


7. To bring down/to slash prices – to reduce the price of something

Sentence – Usually the prices are brought down during 

the off-season.
                                   Or
It’s quite often to slash prices during the sale.


8. To pick out – to select/to choose


Sentence – I have to pick out some cool dresses for 

tonight’s party.


9. To splash out – to spend a lot of money
Sentence – She splashed out in the decoration of the 

New Year party.


10. To rip off something/ to be ripped off – to charge or be charged more for an item
Sentence – I was ripped off by that shopkeeper.
